Single Channel Per Carrier (SCPC)
SCPC refers to using a dedicated, single signal on a given frequency and bandwidth. Most often this is not multiplexed as subcarriers onto a single audio carrier, but independently shares transponder space. Simply put, you have one program on one frequency that can be received by multiple affiliates.
Multiple Channels Per Carrier (MCPC)
MCPC refers to single programs being sent to one central location and Multiplexed into one carrier that is sent over satellite. The Starguide and X-Digital platform are good examples of MCPC carriers. Affiliates can use one receiver to pick up multiple programs. MCPC is a more cost effective use of satellite for affiliates. It can also be cost effective for networks needing hourly usage of space segment.
